Good is the enemy of great. And that is one of the key reasons why we have so little that becomes great. We don't have great schools, principally because we have good schools. We don't have great government, principally because we have good government. Few people attain great lives, in large part because it is just so easy to settle for a good life.

The corporate management guru has made a gold mine statement! When I read this first time I thought it only related to national and boardroom matters. But as I have kept thinking about it this week, it has struck me this truth holds for every area of my life. It applies to personal, family, church and work life!
We need to strive for greatness! Why? Because we can and we must! All followers of Christ have a Great God living inside us and we worship a Great God. He is the reason, the motivation and the end of our pursuit of greatness. We cannot afford to shrink his greatness to our small ambitions in life which revolves around what Paul David Tripp has called the "kingdom of one".
God's route of greatness starts us off in Eden, passes through Golgotha, checks in at Jerusalem on Pentecost and accelerates by the Holy Spirit to our final destination : the new heavens and new earth! It has greatness written all over it! And when we grasp the magnitude of this extraordinary journey we are on we won't settle for merely "good" in life we will live for much greater, greater ambitions. And God's ambitions are great. They are written in the last book of the Bible : "Behold, I am making all things new".
May we live for this greatness today!
