1. The Holy Spirit helps me speak when I am in precarious situations and need to bear witness :
When they bring you to trial and deliver you over, do not be anxious beforehand what you are to say, but say whatever is given you in that hour, for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit. (Mark 13:11)
The Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. (John 14:26-27)
3. The Holy Spirit gives me power to be God’s witness on earth! It is the Spirit who draws people to the gospel, the Spirit who equips me with the strength I need to accomplish God’s purposes:
You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)
4. The Holy Spirit gives me power to put to death the misdeeds of the body. The Holy Spirit sets me free from the sins I cannot get rid of on my own. This is a lifelong process I entered into, in partnership with the Spirit, when I first believed :
Now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death. (Romans 8:1-2)
5. The Holy Spirit leads me into intimacy with my Father, instead of a relationship based on fear and slavery. He bears witness to me that I am God’s child:
The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. (Romans 8:15-16)
6. The Holy Spirit convicts me of sin. He did this both before I initially entered into a right relationship with God and as I journey through this life as a believer :
Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer; concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. (John 16:7-11)
7. The Holy Spirit brings me life and freedom. Where the Spirit is, there is freedom, not bondage or slavery. In my world that is plagued with death, this is a profound truth that points to real hope :
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. (2 Corinthians 3:17)
8. The Holy Spirit makes me abound with hope because my God is a God of hope, who fills His children with all joy and peace :
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. (Romans 15:13)
9. As a member of God’s kingdom community, I am given a manifestation of the Spirit in my life for the purpose of the common good. I have something to offer because of what the Holy Spirit gives to me :
To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. (1 Corinthians 12:7)
10. The Holy Spirit is my sanctifier. The fruit of being led by the Spirit of God includes love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These attitudes and actions will characterize my life as I allow myself to be grow and moulded by the Spirit :
The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. (Galatians 5:22-23)
